Created by the French and Dutch governments, the Descartes-Huygens Prize is awarded each year to scientists of international standing.

Deadline for submission of applications: 15 July 2020.

Each year, the Descartes-Huygens Prize rewards two scientists of international standing for their work and their contribution to Franco-Dutch cooperation. One French scientist is selected by the Royal Dutch Academy of Arts and Sciences and one Dutch scientist is selected by the French Academy of Sciences.

This prize is intended to enable the laureates to finance one or more research stays in France or the Netherlands in the framework of scientific cooperation with one or more partner teams. This stay should make it possible to stimulate the international career of a researcher and to create partnerships, in particular with a view to responding to European calls for proposals.

The Descartes-Huygens Prize is endowed with €23,000 for each winner by the MEAE represented by the French Embassy in the Netherlands, the MESRI and the KNAW.
