Fête de la Musique 2015

Once again, the Alliance Française de Melbourne is proud to bring the Fête de la Musique to Melbourne! This celebration of music is successfully held across 5 continents and 120 countries, every single year.

Founded in France in 1982, the Fête de la Musique aims at bringing people together thanks to the power of music. Featuring free events, it gives people of all backgrounds a chance to play and enjoy all types of music. Amateur as well as professional musicians make this event an unmissable festive and vibrant celebration of world culture.

This June, two shows will be held in St Kilda:

 


 

Thursday June 18th at the St Kilda Library – Free event! No booking required.

This family-friendly event is open to children and adults, and will feature school bands, a classical ensemble and a special guest from the AFM!

Port Melbourne Primary Choir, 5.35pm-5.55pm French and English popular songs, years 4,5,6.
Elwood College's senior musicians, 6pm-6.30pm Oscar Swift (guitarist/singer), Maile Nelson & Lisa Clerehan (guitar/keyboard/vocal duo).
Kevin O, 6.30pm-6.55pm Traditional folk and country songs from the US, Australia, England and France
Accoustic guitar and sing accompaniment.
ANAM's ensembles, 7pm-7.30pm

Jean FRANÇAIX, Divertissement for oboe, clarinet & bassoon
Ludwig van BEETHOVEN, String quartet in F major, op. 18, no.1 (some movements).


Friday June 19th at the Prince Bandroom, 7pm-3am – Free event! No booking required.

The main show of the Fête de la Musique will be held in one of Melbourne's most iconic music venues, the Prince Bandroom. Four local bands and a DJ will perform all night during this event you simply can't miss!

Dave Graney - MC


Dave Graney is an Australian rock musician, singer-songwriter and author from Melbourne. Dave Graney played with the Moodists from 1978 to 1986. He then played with the White Buffaloes/Coral Snakes from 1987 to 1997. His live band is the mistLY.
 

 

The Vaudeville Smash @12am

Consisting of three brothers and two mates, no other Australian band sounds like them. An explosion of funk, flute, sax, synth and groove, that will make you dance all night long. Since their first gig at Fitzroy’s Bar Open in September 2009, the Vaudeville Smash have built a formidable following in their hometown of Melbourne and around the world.

 
 

 

Benny Walker @10.30pm

Victorian singer song-writer rising Benny Walker and his groovy soul voice will take you on a musical journey through rock, blues, reggae and acoustic folk. Having performed alongside some of Australia’s finest, Walker was awarded Victorian Indigenous Performing Arts Award for Best New Talent in 2012. Released March 6th, Benny Walker's new record Through The Forest is his strongest work to date, the sign of an up and coming artist to look out for.


 

The Reprobettes @9.15pm

The Reprobettes are an all-girl 1960s garage rock band out of Melbourne, Australia. Formed in April of 2012, they have taken the garage scene by storm with their mix of defiant attitudes, fuzzy riffs, and wailing banshee screams! These girls play with the intent to make you sing along, shake it on the dance floor, and live life on the wild side.
 
 

 


 

Vive la Difference @8.00pm

Melbourne-based versatile trio, Vive la Difference sounds can be described as a wonderful medley of European and World music, mainly influenced by Blues, Jazz and Latin music.Their sound is an invitation to sing along alternative and exclusive covers of famous French songs.

 

 


 

+ DJ Vincent Hanon

French music journalist Vincent Hanon writes in renowned music magazine Rock & Folk and a number of other publications in Europe and Australia. After twenty years of DJing and independant radio in Paris, Vincent is broadcasting on RRR, presents the cinema course at Alliance Française and is now based in Melbourne.
