Science Rendez-Vous

Groupe "Hong-Kong"

Science fiction in philosophy

Question about the impact of philosophy on the experience of paradoxal thoughts so as to try to explore what is possible in the widest sense. For example, bodies that we can imagine or those which technology may offer to us : Can we dream of controlling our body withremotes, or can we imagine our body showing our thoughts or touching without being touched, like we can see without being seen, etc.

Professor Pierre Cassou-Noguès, alumni of the prestigious Ecole Nationale Supérieure, {agrégé de Mathématiques} , is a professor of philosophy at the University Paris 8 and the co-editor of the journal ‘’SubStance’’ on theory and literary criticism.
Prof Cassou-Noguès’ work focuses on the relationship between the imaginary world and the reason. As part of his work, he has studied the archives of several scholars (Kurt Gödel, Emil Post, Norbert Wiener) and has investigated several aspects of neurosciences to show the link between the two worlds. He has also examined a number of literary and artistic works to show the numerous ways in which an extra-scientific relationship is developed between the imaginary world and reason.

Come and join  “Science Rendez-vous” (in English) on climate change, which will be animated by Prof. Pierre Cassous-Noguès!

About "Science Rendez-vous":

Dedicated to a large audience, these monthly talks aim at taking part in the dissemination of scientific culture in Hong Kong. Through informal talks and exchanges with the audience, renowned experts from France or Hong Kong will popularize a large variety of scientific topics.

The « Science Rendez-Vous » will stay close from topical issues and will keep an eye on ground-breaking discoveries made by French or local teams as well as teams working in cooperation between the two countries.

The talks will be given in English in the following format: 30 minutes speech usually without any PowerPoint presentation followed by a Q&A session fostering interaction between the speaker and the audience.

By partnering with the restaurant « Chez Patrick Deli » who will host these « Science Rendez-Vous » at its Deli restaurant Brim 28, we hope to turn these learning moment into convivial evenings while having the possibility to enjoy the French gastronomy at the same time (cheese and cold cuts platters with a glass of wine, for instance).
