Francophonie Festival Hong Kong and Macau 2017

View 3 times

o celebrate the international day of Francophonie (March 20), Francophonie Festival Hong Kong and Macau 2017 is organised annually so as to promote French language and cultural diversity, and also to facilitate exchanges between French speakers in the world.

This year, Francophonie Festival Hong Kong and Macau 2017 includes a wide range of numerous events will be organised from March 1 to 31 in Hong Kong and Macau: multicultural discussion sessions, award presentation ceremonies, performances, literary encounters, concerts, theatre pieces, poetry, film screenings, contests, educational outreach activities and an exhibition of French poet Jacques Prévert’s collages.

We are also proud to present our three prestigious guests of honour at this year’s festival: the award-winning Algerian writer Boualem Sansal, geopolitical expert Pascal Boniface and cartoonist Clément Baloup. In addition to the presence of guests, this year’s festival includes the Pivot Dictation, which is a very well-known spelling competition in France, for the very first time. The jury of selection of the Pivot Dictation in Hong Kong will select one candidate to represent Hong Kong to participate the final round in Beijing on March 20.

As the year of 2017 marks the fortieth anniversary of the death of famous French poet Jacques Prévert, an exhibition of his collage artworks will be held in honour of his heritage and French language. This exhibition will take place at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. In addition, as Prévert was also a film script writer, film screenings will take place at schools and universities so as to commemorate him. Finally, this year’s poetry writing competition, which is organised by « Sauvés par le Kong », will take “Paroles” as the theme for the same purpose.

Throughout March this year, the general public of Hong Kong will be able to enjoy a series of concerts such as that of Jane Birkin (organised by the Hong Kong Arts Festival) and the musical performances of groups “La Femme” and “Axelle Red”. The yearly “mars en folie” musical event organised by Alliance Française, the Consulate General of Canada in Hong Kong and Consulate General of Switzerland in Hong Kong is also not to be missed.

Francophone films in the festival are also important highlights for this year. A selection of film productions by French-speaking countries will be shown in various places in town such as secondary schools, universities and Alliance Française.

The education sector in town takes an active role in promoting French language and the values of Francophonie. The 8th Pearl River Delta Inter-university French Speech Competition is an example. Finalists from ten different universities in the Pearl River Delta region will participate in the competition in Zhuhai this year. Other notable educational events are “Césars de la Francophonie” Inter-secondary school video competition and poster design competition, both of which are designated for young French learners to take part in.

The Francophone Festival in Hong Kong and Macau 2017 promises to be an enjoyable journey for the public to discover its wonders and emotions. Thanks to the generosity of our partners, of which the number surged in the last few years, this festival can finally take place. Partners for this year’s festival include: Alliance Francaise, TV5Monde, The Association of Teachers of French in Hong Kong and Macau (AFLE), Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), University of Hong Kong, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Asia Society Hong Kong Center, French bookstore Parenthèses, Macau Literary Festival The Script Road, French magazine “Sauvés par le Kong” and Bayard Presse.
