Benjamin Clementine's first record

When France reveals British talents

Benjamin Clementine's first record has been released on January 12th. The musician from London had been discovered in 2013 in the Paris underground by a French producer. Let's have a look on the artist's history, who sings his affection for France.

A voice in the French metro, a mesmerised producer, some word of mouth that leads straight to success: Benjamin Clementine's history has everything of the urban fairy-tale. The young 26-years old musician released his debut album "At least for now" on January 12th. His tour in France will begin on March 2015, and he will play in all major cities: on March 6th in Lille, the 10th in Marseille, the 19th in Paris and the 24th in Strasbourg.

From the underground in Paris to the stage: rise of a musician

At 20, Benjamin Clementine leaves London for Paris. He owes the French capital his maturity, whether artistic or personal. For four years, he plays in the metro. French producers eventually notice him, and Behind production recruits him on June 2013 for a first 3-songs EP. The title Cornerstone reveals him the general audience.

The same year, spectators of the Trans Musicales de Rennes festival fall in love with Benjamin Clementine. Even though he has performed only three songs and a few gigs, he's invited by the organisers, who are always looking out for new talents. Other French festivals have contributed to the musician's rise: the Francofolies of La Rochelle, and even the Vieilles Charrues.

Of British origin, but with a French heart

When Benjamin Clementine talks about his musical style, he always mentions the melancholy of French pianist Erik Satie. He talks about his discovery of Jacques Brel, Charles Aznavour and Léo Ferré after his arrival in France. He is proud to say that he has learnt a lot from these artists: they convinced him that words were just as important as the melody of a song.

The musician repeatedly claims his affection for France. According to him, in this country, artists are welcomed and guided like nowhere else.
