LinkedIn published its first barometer on young graduates. To complete this study, the professional social network analysed thousands of data collected on its platform to identify the industries, jobs and regions offering the best opportunities for “junior profiles”.

With the stated purpose of “supporting those who kick off their career in 2021”, LinkedIn published this first barometer specifically dedicated to young graduates. To complete this study, says the network, “LinkedIn economists analysed thousands of job offers open to young graduates (mentioned as such in their job offer published on LinkedIn), to identify what jobs are more commonly offered and which experimented the strongest growth”.

Clearer horizon for employment

According to LinkedIn, “the good news is that several signs show a pickup this year and a clearer horizon for the 2021 promotion”. The data used show that “though the recruitment rate of young graduates dropped by -31% in September 2020 (compared with September 2019), it started going up again since October (+12 points)”.

So, LinkedIn says, “some industries show a better resistance to the crisis, and are recruiting”. These industries include the IT and digital industries, “first job providers for young graduates” insofar as “by late 2022, 190,000 recruitments are planned in the IT sector”. However, the Top 10 of recruiting industries also includes other industries such as industry, service to companies, finance, health, retail, building and public work and real estate.

Occupations looking for young graduates

In addition to industries, the professional network also analysed functions and occupations “for which the needs in young graduates grew the most between January and March 2021”.

In the Top 5 of “jobs with the strongest growth” are payroll administrators and assistant accountants, functions that became essential with the crisis” says LinkedIn. IT devs, and service technicians and sales positions are just behind. To be noted that the LinkedIn study displays a strong adaptation to new working conditions: 4% of publications requesting minor professional experience offer the opportunity to work remotely, against only 0.3% at the same period last year.

Geographic mobility, the career booster

The LinkedIn jobs barometer also analysed the geographic mobility as “career booster”.

For young people who can change region for their work, the network published a ranking of “regions and local companies most demanding candidates who recently completed their training”. The list is based on offers for young graduates published on the first quarter 2021 and provides a Top 5 of regions most recruiting young graduates. It’s no surprise to see that the Île-de-France region (Paris) leads, followed by the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region (Lyon), the Nouvelle Aquitaine region (Bordeaux), the Occitanie region (Toulouse) and the Pays de la Loire region (Nantes).
