Presented by the Alliance Française Melbourne, France Alumni Australie and hosted by DJ Edd Fisher, a key figure in Melbourne’s music scene of late, the 2016 Fete de la Musique (Make Music Day) main event was held at the Memo Music Hall on Sunday June 19 2016 from 2.30pm until 9pm.

Fête de la Musique was first launched in France in 1982 and has since become a worldwide annual event celebrating all music genres via free concerts in more than 120 countries spread over five continents. In the Northern Hemisphere, Fête de la Musique is celebrated on June 21 (the first day of summer) with many concerts held outdoors. In beautiful wintery Melbourne, there was no better place than the iconic Memo Music Hall to gather all Melbournians to celebrate music! In keeping with the spirit of the event of “all kinds of music”, the Alliance Française put together an impressive line-up, inviting local performers to the stage to entertain the audience into the evening.

Two free events were held in St Kilda to celebrate the day:

- On Thursday June 16, (6pm to 7.30pm) the students of Elwood College and the Trio Benoit featuring Dave Evans (accordion), James Sherlock (guitar) and Adam Spiegl (double bass) performed in the St Kilda Library.

- On Sunday June 19, from 2.30pm, the Memo Music Hall welcomed the main Fête de la Musique event, featuring four exciting local live acts: Ali Barter (3pm to 4pm), Penny Ikinger (4.30pm to 5.30pm), Baro (6pm to 6.30pm) and The Seven Ups (7.30pm to 8.30pm). DJ Edd Fisher, the host of the event, played sets during the event.
