L’expérience d'une vie, Ian Schreiber

"I am yearning to return to France for graduate school"

Ian SchreiberGrowing up, I had always been a fan of foreign languages and different cultures, however I have always had a special interest for the French language. So once I enrolled into the French minor program at FIU, I soon learned from the study abroad office that I could actually live and study in Paris, France.

Seizing that opportunity, I was ecstatic about getting to live with a wonderful French host family and enrolling into Université Paris 1 - Panthéon Sorbonne where I would continue learning about the French language and culture. Living in Paris, I learned how to stand in the métro, found where the closest “Nicolas” wine specialty store was, and explored the many extravagant museums such as the Louvre and Musée d’Orsay - though the Musée du quai Branly is my personal favorite. My French skills, my cross-cultural communication skills, and my big-city life skills all contributed to my personal and professional development as a newly transformed global citizen.

At the end of the academic year I was able to intern with MICEFA in Paris and once I returned back to FIU in the fall, I had the honor of receiving an internship at the Consulate General of France in Miami where I assist in the Cultural Service department alongside the Cultural Attaché. After this life changing experience, I am yearning to return to France for graduate school where I can revisit all of my dear friends and get a hot “tradition baguette” from my favorite boulangerie for dinner.
