Overview

The University of Burgundy is a public and multidisciplinary establishment with 34,000 students and 3,000 staff members and 3,000 frequent collaborators. It was created in 1722 and now covers 6 individual campuses, creating a total of 314,000m², in Auxerre, Chalon-sur-Saône, Dijon, Le Creusot, Mâcon and Nevers.

The university offers 400 different degrees across all levels; Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD. Each year 800 students register for a specialised programmes of study and work, and 3,400 students register for continuing education programmes.

The university is involved in world leading research with six particular areas of excellence:

  • food and environment,
  • health and molecular engineering,
  • photonics and advanced materials,
  • learning and care,
  • heritage and territories
  • wine and vine.

The university has nearly 1,500 lecturers and active researchers and 32 recognised research units.

The high quality of student life at the University of Burgundy is recognised across the country. It is home to 16 libraries offering a collection of 680,000 printed documents as well as allowing access to thousands of online resources for university students.

There are also 8 university restaurants and cafeterias and 4,100 CROUS student rooms and apartments. The university also has more than 140 student societies, a crèche, a preventive health care centre, a service for disabled students, 50 free sport activities and 235 different cultural projects and events which take place throughout the year.

Every year the university welcomes 2,900 international students coming from 5 continents.
