Overview

Created in 1962, Bordeaux Sciences Agro benefits from the Nouvelle Aquitaine region agriculture dynamism (World’s foremost region for registered designation wines, France’s leading region for production under quality labels, and Europe’s largest planted forest).

Bordeaux Sciences Agro has developed a close partnership with the university and scientific campus in Bordeaux (the University of Bordeaux, IPB, INRA, CNRS, INSERM, IRSTEA, etc.), where it is the only institute of higher education in agronomics and veterinary science.

Bordeaux Sciences Agro’s research professors and scientists work in 12 research units which address topics in phase with the major challenges of our time (the ecology of the agrosystems, the effect of human practices on the environment, the influence of nutrition on health, precision agriculture, sustainable territorial management, etc)

Bordeaux Sciences delivers 5 high-level degrees: 1 Engineering Degree (Post Graduate level )in Agronomy with 11 specialities; 1 Specialized Master in Winery Management; 1 International Master in Vineyard and Winery Management, 1 International Bachelor in Viticulture & Enology and 1 Bachelor degree dealing with local developpement in rural areas (jointly delivered with University of Bordeaux-Montaigne).

Bordeaux Sciences Agro is a founding member and common administrator of major scientific institutes (Institute des Sciences de la Vigne et du Vin (ISVV), and the Forest- Wood Platform) and belongs to clusters and competitive hubs such as INNO’VIN - the Aquitaine region wine sector cluster, AGRIMIP Sud Ouest Innovation -Competitive agrichain hub for Aquitaine and Midi Pyrénées Regions and XYLOFUTUR - competitive hub for the Aquitaine forestry-wood-paper commodity chain.

Bordeaux Sciences Agro has its own wine estate: Château Luchey-Halde, ideally located on 29 hectares of exceptional land at the center of the renowned appellation, Pessac-Léognan. In 1999, the school began re-developing the estate. In the space of a few years, the vineyard restored its reputation for excellence and began producing high quality red and white wines. This estate both provides students studying the wine industry with an exceptional working tool, and beautifully showcases the school’s know-how and commitment.
