At the heart of Europe, the University of Limoges is a major multidisciplinary center of higher education, in an environment that is highly conducive to scientific development.
Open to all, it is a hub of interaction, with a wide range of students, efficient facilities, close-knit teams and courses based on top-level research with clearly identified career prospects.
Its scientific excellence, with cutting-edge laboratories and far-reaching partnerships, is helping to invent the world of tomorrow.
A creative university
The University of Limoges also stands out for its sense of innovation, both in its courses and in its work. Zinédine Zidane, Laurent Blanc (and many others) came here to study for their management degrees in sports law and economics. Its laboratories specializing in materials science and MEMS (micro-electro-mechanical systems) are working on space shuttles. In genetics, Michel Cogné is behind a worldwide discovery on gene suicide. A team led by François Reynaud has perfected a process for changing the colors of stars to make them easier to observe through giant telescopes.
The Centre de Recherches Sémiotiques, Europe's leading semiotics research center, works on the vast fields of meaning production, to better understand our communication and information societies. International criminal tribunals have chosen our research centers to preserve and better exploit their archives. The University of Limoges is at the heart of the new intelligence economy that is shaping the 21st century.
Our research facilities include four institutes, twenty-three teams, a Labex, seven joint laboratories with major companies and seven technical platforms, and employ nearly one thousand five hundred people.
At the heart of a global network
The University of Limoges maintains a large number of active collaborations with a number of universities in Europe and around the world. It is at the heart of a global network, enabling exchanges with students, researchers and lecturers from a wide variety of backgrounds. The International Welcome Office facilitates all the formalities required to welcome and settle them in.
Around 350 degree courses in a wide variety of fields attract students from every continent. The University of Limoges is one of the top ten most dynamic French universities in terms of incoming international mobility, with the strongest growth in recent years: over 2,150 students. It also encourages and facilitates the mobility of its students and teaching staff to other universities.
This dynamic of international exchanges is a deliberate strategy on the part of the University to promote its areas of excellence and bring its training and research in line with the major currents of thought, science and technology. It's an essential part of making the University of Limoges a special place for its students and alumni.
